Celebration & Contribution
Celebrate your wins, lift other people up, and make your success count.
Celebration & Contribution is about two habits: stopping to enjoy your wins, big or small, yours or someone else's, and giving your time, skills, or money to the people and causes you care about.
Celebration keeps your energy high and reminds you how far you've come. Contribution gives your success a bigger purpose. People who do both build momentum that spreads to every other area of the wheel.
Why it matters
In a Harvard-led study of nearly 13,000 U.S. adults over 50, people who volunteered 100 or more hours a year (about 2 hours a week) had a 44% lower risk of dying during the 4-year follow-up than people who didn't volunteer.
In University of Chicago experiments, people who wrote gratitude letters underestimated how surprised and happy the people receiving them would feel, and overestimated how awkward it would be.
Quick self-check
- On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with your Celebration & Contribution right now?
- In the last 30 days, how often did you stop to celebrate a win, big or small, yours or someone else's?
- In the last 30 days, how often did you give your time, skills, or money to help someone outside your home?
If you answered "about once a week" or less on either habit, start with the quick wins below.
Ideas to level up

90-day moves
- Pick one cause you care about and sign up for a recurring volunteer shift on Idealist or JustServe.
- Set a monthly giving amount on autopay to a charity you've checked on Charity Navigator.
- Put a monthly win night on the calendar where your family or friends share their best moment of the month.
- Offer one skill for free: mentor someone, review a resume, or teach a class.
Big-vision goals
- Build up to 100 volunteer hours a year, about 2 hours a week.
- Lead a giving project for your team, church, or neighborhood, such as a drive, fundraiser, or service day.
- Plan a ritual for every big milestone this year, such as a dinner, a trip, or a keepsake, so the moment sticks.
Sample SMART goals

- Mail one handwritten thank-you note every Friday for 12 weeks, ending March 31.
- Give $50 a month by autopay to one vetted charity from November 1 through October 31, for $600 in total.
